Known for her powerful and elegant color work, Michelle Torrez' expressionist oil paintings of figures are vivid and painterly while communicating the beauty of unlikely emotion, movement and life. Born in Denver, Colorado, Torrez studied passive solar architectural design and attended the Colorado Institute of Art, graduating in 1987 with an Associate Degree in Advertising Design.
She worked as an art director at an advertising agency in Dallas and began exploring the medium of sculptural jewelry, exhibiting her work at the famous Dallas Museum of Art. After returning to Colorado, she continued a career in advertising until 1994, when she formed a mural painting company. Her murals appear in private residences and businesses throughout Colorado. Her oil paintings have been featured in a number of publications, including Southwest Art Magazine.
In 2003, Michelle was selected by the U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria to participate in the "Art in Embassies" Program. Her work can be found in a number of galleries in Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and North Carolina. See her website: www.michelletorrez.com
