Mike Wells has a lifetime of experience working with various metals. After receiving a degree in Industrial Arts from North Texas State University in 1964, he began a career flying helicopters for the military in Vietnam and later flying for a small independent oil company. Metal work remained a sideline until January 2000 when Mike started The Wells Company on a full-time basis. Mike has directed the last ten years towards creating custom, one-of-a-kind pieces of metal art.
The majority of the art he creates explores the natural beauty of various metals by utilizing heat, chemical patina or simply the polished metal itself. Mike works in steel, bronze, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, or a mix of wood and metal. His items are completely handcrafted using fabrication equipment including mig, tig and stick welders, plasma arc, metal rolls and an array of hand tools.
