our community involvement & activities
Every year since 2018, we have sponsored the children's "Camp on the Go" in memory of J.R. (Rusty) Cook, in partnership with the Kemp Center for the Arts and the Wichita Falls Arts Council.
In 2022, 2023, and 2024 we once again sponsored the "Art of the Song" art show during the Nocona Nights Music Festival in Nocona (after a hiatus due to Covid).
In 2022, member Karen Chatham sponsored a community "paint out" for over a hundred people to join efforts to create a painting in honor and memory of Athena Strand, a child killed in her local community by a child predator. Titled "Carried by the Angels," the piece was presented to the child's mother, with Karen also creating another painting for the child's father.

In 2016, 2017 and 2018, the CTAA has sponsored a 3-day watercolor workshop by noted artist Soon Warren. In 2017 and 2018 we held our annual juried art shows in conjunction with the Cruisin' Nocona Festival and also the Nocona Nights Music Festivals, both in Nocona.
In 2015 and 2016, the CTAA created the signage for the Bowie Knife Project at Pelham Park in Bowie. We were honored to be able to stamp our club logo into the concrete for the sculpture! Former member Bob Hadley was instrumental in getting the project off the ground, and it now holds the Guiness World Record for the world's largest Bowie knife.
In 2014, 2015, and 2016, the CTAA created the Bob Hadley Memorial Scholarship, honoring past member Bob Hadley. This Scholarship provided college funds for a deserving Montague County high school senior interested in pursuing further art education.
In 2013, the CTAA sponsored the "Cruisin' the Chisholm Trail" Juried Art Show in conjunction with the citywide celebration "Cruisin' Nocona" and the Vicari Classic & Muscle Car Auction. Artists from all over north Texas participated, with cash awards and ribbons presented for winning artists accepted into the juried show. The CTAA provided the city with much-needed manpower for the event, as well as sponsored the ribbons and all the graphic art and advertising for the show, including a website hosting to announce the event, which was co-sponsored by the Nocona Chamber of Commerce.

Also in 2013, several CTAA members participated in the planning and coordination of the Small Town America Art Show presented by the Bowie Alliance for Education & the Arts, held in conjunction with Bowie's Chicken and Bread Days festival. Member Gale Cochran-Smith painted the washer-toss booth for Sunset's Fall Festival, put on by area churches as an old-fashioned carnival for area youth. In addition, during the 100th birthday celebration of the Montague County Courthouse, the CTAA sponsored an art contest for area youth (third through sixth grades), decorating the courthouse for the event. Members Larry G. Lemons and J.R. Cook both participated in the "Light on the Land" Plein Air Event in Saint Jo, benefiting the Montague County Child Welfare Board.
In 2012, the CTAA sponsored the top prize in the 15-18 age group category in the Small Town America Art Show.
In 2011, the CTAA held an art show for the students at Bowie Elementary School. All students participating received ribbons, and the top three winners in each grade had their artwork displayed at the CTAA Art Gallery for the summer. In addition, several CTAA members put together a powerpoint presentation titled "Bowie's First Fast Food Restaurant" for the elementary school to explain the history behind the city's "Chicken and Bread Days" Celebration.
